Norwell Selectmen approved a new Affordable Housing Production Plan for the town at their meeting Wednesday night.
Every five years the state requires municipalities to submit a plan for approval.
The new plan was drawn up with the help of Affordable Housing Consultant Karen Sunnarborg.
Norwell Affordable Housing Partnership Chairman Bruce Burgess said that if it’s implemented, the plan would give the town the upper hand against 40B developers.
“We’ve been inundated over the past few years, with outside parties seeking to build affordable housing for profit. What the plan basically does when it’s implemented, which is about 18 units a year… we can say to any outside party who might make a proposal, such as Whitebarn or one of those others, that it’s rejected out of hand because we’ve met our (affordable housing) goal”, Burgess explained.
The plan will now be submitted to the state for approval.
